I Receive!!

Food for thought!!

God bless our homeland Ghana

Hail to thy name, O Ghana

To thee we make our solemn vow;

Steadfast to build together
A nation strong in unity;
With our gifts of mind and strength of arm,
Whether night or day, in mist or storm,
In every need whate’er the call may be,
To serve thee, Ghana, now and evermore.

I receive. We receive. Receive it. O yes I receive it. That is the most common refrain on the lips of everybody today. From the temple to the streets, from the working zones to the bathrooms. All are receiving it. Especially the ladies. That is not the issue though. What is it with the sudden rise of the charismatic revival in Ghana that even the orthodox churches are now holding charismatic revival programs and even tongue speaking? Do not get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with speaking in tongues. It is very biblical. Did the Son 0f Man speak in tongues though? Is it documented? Back on track.

One would think with the religiosity of the Ghanaian, certain things would not be part of society but no. It is all about proclaiming our saintliness and doing the other. I am sad. I start with religion. Religion is a way of life. Thus Christianity, Islam, Buddhism amongst others is ways of life. I find it erroneous when people opine that their religion is superior to others. The question I ask is “ Is your way of life better? Are you a role model? How are you an impact on society? Are you positively affecting lives that would bring happiness, joy, and laughter to individuals and families?

I have a few friends in my age bracket that I would dare say stand out. Nana Awere Damoah, Nelson Danso, Kofi Larbi, Kodwo Brumpon, I-am Okyne, Eric Boateng. K Amigosten Amoah.These people and others devoid of religiosity seek to impact society in a positive and visual manner. Amidst laughter, they cajole society about the truth. Enough about them.

The accepted norm now is to respond “ In the name of Jesus” to everything and “the blood of Jesus be on you” to anyone who does not side with us. Whither do we go? Assuming you are having a warble wobble with another person. Both of you attend the same church. You do not talk to each other. Both of you attend each service, all nights, every altar call and commit to every pledge. Each has reported the other to the pastor. You know very well, you are at fault. I rest my case. I want you to be the judge.

Until we as a people learn to be people loving and lead exemplary lives, we make a mockery of our so-called “ born again “status. Today we cry of corruption, thievery and plain bold liars ruining our economy. We are all Ghanaians. We are all part of it. As we say “I receive it” and then the envelope goes into your bag or pocket before you begin to process the documents on your desk. Yet you want to get paid at the end of each month. You wait to receive lunch. You wait to receive Payola, Soli; name it. How do you expect those in high places to stop stealing? When you shower undue, uncalled for praises on them, they receive it. They bask in the glow and glory of wanton and reckless people whose main motive in life is to feed fat of others without lifting a finger to work.

I pray. Let us use our new found sanctuary in The Good Lord for the betterment of one and all. Let us as a people learn to be Honest, Truthful and Loving of each other. Let us always look on the positive side. Let us be candid and frank about issues. Until we call a spade a spade, we shall always be “receiving”.

In defense of the Woman

‘Servant of God’, ‘Man of God’ the archbishop, bishop, papa, whatever. Titles. God gave each and everyone of us brains. He made none stupid. When we as a people, sit and allow a person and or persons to massage our God given intelligence to assuage their swollen egos then, I beg ……..
Naturally, I should be proud and live by this statement made by this bigoted being since it favors the men. Apuuuuu! I promised myself, my wife would smile at all times. I would cook and clean and be a partner, not a boss. We sat in the same lecture rooms and received degrees on the same day. I saw her being cut three, yes three times to deliver our kids. My mother and aunties toiled tirelessly. I choose to defend womanhood. I will do it till my last breathe. In a novel by Aminata Sow Fall, women are seen as their own enemies. This is a Senegalese, African novel.
I don’t care when this speech was made by this man. It should not have been made. At all. It smacks of male chauvinism. The bible is being twisted just as the law is interpreted according to the judge.
Continue your defence of mediocrity; we, K Amigosten Amoah and others will continue to strive to remove the hooded blanket over your eyes.
Let the wise read and take note accordingly.
I remain, also a servant of God. He hath sent me.

Respect The Woman

I was born of a woman. For those of you who knew my mum, you would attest to the fact that she sacrificed a lot. Yes a lot. My mother was a Ghanaian. I can likewise identify with the mothers of so many of my friends. Some fed and provided for me. Some continue to do same. Some are living. Some have finished their earthly assignments. Some including my biological mother never lived long enough to enjoy the fruits of the seed they sowed. I write in pure anger. This is the Major you used to know. Not the one you know today. I am back on that precarious precipice again. Hopefully for a short while. How many of you have wives? How many of you have kids? Have you been there during the birthing of your child or children? A woman in pain or distress is videotaped. Some wimp puts it out into the public domain. Though it is to court sympathy, please it is distasteful. Do not do this.
Do not debase womanhood. No man conceived you. You were housed by a woman. Rent free. Bills free. You were born of a woman. Please, I plead, RESPECT womanhood.
