Television and Radio in Ghana has come a long way. Very long way indeed. From when I began to watch the Sanyo black and white TV to today, all I can say is Hmmmmm. Then I was the TV remote. I had to slap that TV in order to change channels. How many were there? As for radio it was all about GBC Two on that box of an Akasanoma Pre-set radio. The voices of Charlie Sam, Godwin Avernorgbor, Tommy Annan-Forson and co. TV had newsreaders like Tina Moses, Beatrice Aidoo and co. That was then. Fast forward to democratic dispensation. In comes Radio Eye. Start of Brouhahaha.
Are there No Adults in town? Is there none to advise? Then for what reason do you claim Godliness in your lives? Out of respect I would be very mindful of my words. I figured to be called an Adult, connoted a sense of responsibility to that being. Argue that the laws of the land limit your ability to reprimand and I will dare to ask what you have done to repeal that law? Once again the churches are guilty. The houses of worship are guilty. All they care about is your contributions, tithes and offerings.
Why are the TV channels and Radio stations inundated with so many adverts of alcoholic products? They sponsor major programs on both TV and Radio. Why? Is this what we are preparing our future leaders for? A life of drunkenness and irresponsibility? No wonder marriages break down easily these days. Now women are even wont to down glasses of alcohol easily. When you see and hear about something over a period of time, you tend to believe and out of curiosity, try it. You convince yourself it is good for you and you become addicted. Is it the revenue to be gained from such adverts that has led us to throw our senses to the dogs?
You drink and drive. A life is lost due to recklessness.
You drink and work at your accounting books. Mistakes galore. You cause financial loss to …
You drink and go to perform a surgery. You cut the wrong body part and maim someone for life.
You are a judge and a noted drunk. Justice is thrown to the dogs..
You drink and become a leader… Your people are doomed. That is what is happening today. Are there no Adults to say enough is enough?
What is the essence of that Ministry whose boss is a Kakai dancer? I believe their mandate is the well being of the children and all gender. Children I say are a gift and must be brought up properly in that one day they can take over from where we have left off. But then what are they doing to curb this social canker? I solemnly fear if care is not taken, we would have none but ourselves to blame. O lest I forget, it would affect our offspring first. So I urge you, as you read this article, call your MP, your Pastor, a community leader and make your voice heard. Put out petitions. Speak Out! You are the change!
