Changing Minds

Swift she blows
On a very high low
Too humid this season
It is spring or rainy season
The wind
Very confusing.

Dry grass bringing forth
Green grass gasping for breadth
Leaves born anew
Roots gnarled firmly askew
Earth static yet still wealthy
Man confused and not healthy.

That is the power of the mind
Unless we uproot that set
Setbacks will be the norm
That will be set
Forever
Need to change minds
Only for the better
Not for the matter

I am only a messenger.
I have come to deliver.

My Healthy Lifestyle 2017

This article was first published in 2016. I am repeating it for a reason. We need to rewire our attitudinal thinking in all spheres of life. Enjoy reading and please share.

Total deviation. Health issues but no Doctor. Just plain common sense. I sat in thought. I shrugged it off. I continued. It was all about me. I had little care in the world. Was it really about me or it was youthful exuberance? Yeah, some are untold stories but charley, a lot of the action was wrong. Today I am paying for it. Others are also in the same soup but Jah dey.
Very often in our lives, we take things for granted.
First, when we are young we engage in certain lifestyles thinking it is an accreditation for freedom. The “cut cut”, khebabs, drinks that we consume in the name of good living. No exercise. Staying up late doing unnecessary things. Above all engaging in worthless debates/arguments that only serve to serve as a catalyst to destroying our internal organs. We have organs in us that make the music of life. When those organs are out of tune, we fall sick. When they break down we die. Do you know we are different? That your metabolism is different from mine? That is why we don’t look alike but certain things in these bodies of ours work alike. Keep on reading. Do not stop.
Some are fortunate and decide from day one to lead healthy lifestyles. Some tune in along the way. Some of us too, we sit legs outstretched laughing at them. They will live long. When we depart at an early age, our people and friends will attribute it to spiritualism. Somebody in our village did vodoo on us to eliminate us they would say. I laugh. In this day of enlightenment, we attribute our stupidity and idiocy to vodoo. Ok ok. Do the right thing; live the right way and when something happens, then the fingerpointing can start. How many times do we go for checkups? In as much as we hear a lot of these ailments are hereditary, what attempts have we made at prolonging our lives?
Either it is an attempt to woo that lady or to siphon that gentleman’s cash off him like gasoline/petrol. It is in attempt to attend the most parties in a year.
I looked at myself today. I listened to my breathing. I am not happy. Very good friends constantly urge me on my weight loss journey. I have not adhered to my regime. I am the only one who can do it. Can you? Will you?
Email me. Text me. Let us motivate one another. Let us eat healthy. Let us do the right thing. Let us ask HE who created us to help us. Though we have the will, we need His strength to forge through. I want to still talk to you. I want you to continue reading and sharing my articles. I want to live. Healthy.
I love you.
Blessings Always

Ps. Never hesitate to ask me how I am doing because I will ask you too.

CyberSocialism

Social media sensationalism.
Greetings. Another Friday. I love social media. It is like being surrounded by a bank of computers and being fed with all sorts of news. At once!
I simply love the way we grab onto a topic and make some hullabaloo. After 2 or 3 days, we start another one. SENSATIONALISM!
We need to address issues and see them to a fruitful conclusion not like that half baked bread. (can you imagine?)
I love Whatsapp. I love their platform experience but it’s a nuisance at times. It has allowed for mates, friends, siblings, ex-lovers, would be lovers, enemeies, frenemies to share a common platform of cyber socialisation. A cyber walk in a cyber park. We gift and share cakes. We share beers and whiskeys (nsem wo world). At times it is just a load of ….being shared. Irrelevant stuff. But then if what you like is what I like I would have a brassiere on my b…
From Facebook to Whatsapp, maybe Twitter and LinkeDIn, now everyone preaches. I don’t want to know how much you love God. Stop telling me every day. I would rather you live God in your life. Yes live Him. What have you done that would show you to be your brother’s keeper?
Morning afternoon evening night.
Empower someone. Encourage someone.
I have showed you love. You too
SHOW LOVE!
I am yours truly

Love for sale

‘Tis very real and true
Love is for sale
Hurry lest the ship sets sail
I want you on board, Mr Male
We will not allow any mail
There is no internet; so no e-mail
We are inviting every single female
You are excited.
This is no ordinary love
It only for those who have
Cos ”tis Love for sale
Money is the binding equipment
Money is the solvent and soluble
Money will open the Gate of Enjoyment
Money will make sure you say nonsense
In response to idiocy
Money will turn the tables
She will wear the pants
He will wear the Kaba and slit
It will be a flamboyant slit
After all it is love for sale
Not even in the supermarket
Not even for character
Not even for the companionship
Simply simplistically fundamentally
Put
It is Love for sale.
No love. Just for the ish!

A letter to my father 2017

Hello Dad,
how are you sir? and your beautiful wife? I mean my mother! We have not communicated in along while. How is Nana and Auntie Rene? There is so much to tell you. At a point I believe your jaw will drop. Yes I mean drop.
Where would you want me to start from? family matters or Ghana matters? Choose
Dad, I have finally deleted your 026 number from my contact list. I tried sending you a WhatsApp message only to realize you are not on there. WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat are among the “in things” for social media today. I wish we could communicate more often through social media. The world is now a digital global image. It gives credence to the saying “Small World”.
Dad, your friend is now the president of Ghana. He persisted brutal. The people were also tired. They clamored for change.
Sad news. Some folk of a town called Denkyira-Obuasi stoned an army Captain to death. Gidigidi like that ooooo. He was promoted to Major posthumously. He left behind two boys. Hmmmmm. Dad, he will miss Father’s Day. His boys will miss him. His wife will not cook any special meal for him. Please when reading this letter don’t tell Mom about this sad happening. Which brings me to family matters.
I will start with the news of me being in the hospital first.
Yeah! I am free. I said it. Please be rest assured. I have changed my diet and now try to exercise daily. Slim things. I am capable of laughing now and please join me in always giving thanks to God Almighty. I know you and mom are not ready for me. Yet.
Now achievements. I brought home another certificate. Your boy made Honor role. (Not me) The girls are just rocking it. When I say the girls, you know what and who I mean, right? As for Trudy, her patience and strength is amazing.
Dad, my dream of writing is being fulfilled. Though some guys tried to put me down, some other guys propped me up gigantically. I also took up a position as the Managing Editor for an Online Media Outlet. Please type in http://www.GAJReport.com for the most authoritative and authentic Ghanaian American News.
Dad, in truth I miss you. I miss you very much. There are times I wish you were around so we could just sit and chat. Do debates. Assimilate your knowledge. Today is Father’s Day. God has taken your place. Though I miss you, HE comforts like no other. HE talks to me always and is so loving. HE tells me you are in a better place and doing well. Do not get misty in your eyes when you read this letter. Just know that my siblings and I, will forever uphold your name. Wherever you are, we will make you proud always. Kisses to mum and sir, Happy Father’s Day!

Your son

Is this Life?

And it was in the cool of the night.
The sun had roasted the earth.
Many wished for the rain
But it was too warm for even a drizzle.
Even it was cumbersome to talk on a phone,
It was just chatting on different platforms.
Each claimed to love as brothers and sisters
Beautiful reading thoughts expressed
Nothing but stone wrapped in Candy wrapping
Finally, sleep crawled into the eyes
Souls given to the Creator to keep.
“I spoke to him last”
“he was my best friend”
“was he sick? How come we did not know?”
Too late.
No tears. No tears.
The crack of dawn brings light to the eyes.
It is the light of life.
What life?
Which life?

The dance

Dark clouds.
Light filled eyes.
Kpanlogo dance on a moonless afternoon
Lanterns burning fiercely
Sweat running of bodies
Steps tune into Dambai
I step in rhythm
The atumpan roars our steps
The dondo summons the bystanders
Time is lost
Eternity is here
Do you want to dance?

My 3rd Letter to Tippa

Dear Tippa,
It is with a heavy heart that I write you this letter. I am very devastated but I find solace in something. The clothes I used to wear in 2005 are back in my closet. Poco a poco.
Big bro, have you heard the news? Crazy news paa but they say they say he is busy at work. I have read and equally listened to his SONA but Tippa, rhetoric is rhetoric unless it is backed by deed.
My first question and please answer me carefully. Why will the funds being taken from these so called sponsors not be distributed equally for educational and healthcare reform?
What will it take for a world class printing press to be set up in Ghana so we print at home instead of roaming other countries to do same? Why can we not invest in educators to formulate better policies that will inform world class curriculum and not “What is the head used for” type of questions? Free education needs money and sound policies and discipline. We do not need classrooms under trees neither do we need shoddy classrooms put up by greedy contractors. Will the classrooms have the basic necessities and accessories? Will it be digitized classrooms or still chalk? Will there be smartboards designed by KNUST for our own use?
Healthcare needs serious infrastructure. Tippa, I beg tell the President to ban his people from seeking healthcare outside Ghana. All government officials should make use of all the healthcare facilities in Ghana. By so doing, I believe they will work hard at improving the standards. Our healthcare facilities must be upgraded. People are dying of ailments that otherwise could be treated. These corporate bodies that are donating have no shame. They should donate by adopting departments and wings at these facilities and stop this nonsense of bootlicking behaviors. Please tell the President it starts with him.
Charley Tippa, will the President ride in Katanka on 6th March or another foreign vehicle? Will he wear Made in Ghana socks and underwear? Will the First Lady wear a wig ? Which nation’s wig will it be? Will her purse/clutch be made in Ghana? Will the ministers and other Government officials wear Made in Ghana clothing?
Tippa Irie, I remember the days when you wore rubber sandals not because you could not afford sandals but you wanted to remind yourself not all could make it to Achimota College. For you being in Motown was a privilege. You were one of few. I want you to remind the President that as we hit 60 we have nothing to show for it. KNUST comes out with inventions each year. Which of them are mass produced for our patronage? Tippa, Tippa, I bore rough. What use is knowledge if we do not put it to use? The very countries that we go abegging from, live thriftily and when we do get the money, we show off with the finest of vehicles and girlfriends.
Please Tippa, do not be angry with me but you know what? I am done!

Written noisily but silently
I remain #SILENTNOISES

NB: please check out this new website for Ghanaian Americans.   It is http://www.GAJReport.com.  It is very educational and informative. More soon.

Why?

What at all is this? In this day and age, is the priority vehicles to ride in? How do these vehicles put food on the table? Are they exotic cars or what?  Adults behaving like kids.
Let me jump on the Free Education bandwagon first. So Heritage Fund brouhaha. Okay advance a solution. I hate it when all people do is find fault. What will that do? Advance a solution; put forward a solution. No matter how…… it will still be an attempt. Mind you, the free education is not for his kids. You could at least add onto his suggestion about how to make it better.
As for that white wig wearing guy who says he will work to make the tenure of  the President difficult, I wonder who taught him in school. A disgrace to his teachers. People are talking about Motown and GeyHey and other schools not qualifying for Free education status for their students. Let me say this: “One day the charcoal seller’s child will wear a white shirt”
I hear my namesake and his people are in KwasiaJuaso (foolsmarket) looking for a foreign coach. Again? Nanasins in capital letters.  iI guess they never learn. When Osagyefo was, he appointed a local Made in Ghana Coach. He believed in this man. This man departed this realm as a legend. What is the legacy of AmGt? Would be? or Wanna be? Sannie, tell your man to bring back Kwasi Appiah and allow Coach Appiah to be his own man. Allow him to do his own thing. Stop the blatant interference. Kwasi Appiah and others, born and bred in Ghana can do the job. i said ‘bred’ not ‘bread’. Stop licking your lips. Is that why you are going for Milo?
Reminder: it is an election into office not election into power! if power then go and generate power to businesses and homes. (Those of you who keep saying “erection into power” be wary. You might just awaken a sleeping giant.) You are elected into office to follow a constitutional mandate, not to do your own thing. Who born dog? Return the cars. I know you need the cars to keep those fianga girls hooked. They would rather ride in posh cars than do any other thing. Society is dynamic and where we see faults in a system, we must fix it. Are the citizens whose blood and sweat and taxes fools? Think about this. Buying cars for peanuts. Work for it. Use your earned money to purchase your vehicle of choice.  Keep the Government cars in a pool and use them from one government to the other. Put a blueprint in place. There are mechanics who are employed by the government to service these vehicles. They can service them for years. SAVE MONEY! Channel that money to be used for the purchase of new vehicles into Education and Healthcare.

I wish Nana you would pass an order barring any government officer from seeking medical treatment outside of Ghana. Not even Togo.
I am done.
